Classic Firearms M39

Now I know I do not like ClassicFirearms like most of you guys here and think they are over prices BUT the M39's there are only $289 and yes they have a crack in the stock but it seem to be minimal there....On GunBoards and other forums and places all I see are Finnish M39's going for over $450.... For a shooter M39 I think that I am going to maybe buy there M39...

What do you guys think?

If you just want a shooter and are confident in your stock repair capabilities go for it.

Could be anything from a minor split in a hand guard to a major break at the tang.

New stock is going to run you $200 or more

For every small crack that goes out there will be a significant one that you might get. Are you ok with paying for return shipping charges?

The M39 is a beautiful shooter I recently parted with 1-2.

As much as we bash Classic I have to admit the VKT are Sako they sent me last year are both beautiful. The VKT has a very nice post war birch stock and is in mint condition. The Sako has a little more battle character but is also very nice and started to develop the plum color. I have proper bayos for both. The bayos cost almost as much as the damn rifles.

The VKT they sent me (which was advertised as hand select) 2 years ago had 3 cracks, a gouge, and the tang was dented in. I sent it back, but this is the type of condition you'll be getting. Replacement Finn stocks are very scarce so your only practical option is paying someone to repair it or fixing it yourself. Either option will incur a cost in either money or time.

This is a "Classic" situation where the apparent bargain is not.

I heard their first batch had a lot of issues because they didn't cull the cracked stocks. I bought mine around April of last year.

My VKT had a bent firing pin, broken ejector,wood that would give you a splinter. I never bonded with it.trigger was nothing special . My current Chinese T 53 has a nice light crisp trigger and only cost me 150. Yes i am the goofy one.

From the new broken stocks or the original mess?

First Classic Chromed Mosins, then they sell the worst M39s of the bunch first, the final straw for me was the War Eagles on $900 RC and Yugo Mausers. Never bought from them, never will.

This was my third encounter with classic. Previously I was quite happy, though this time I'm really not.

I paid got an Ex, what I picked up from my FFL had gouges, a tang crack, and partially faded bluing.

I'll repair the stock because I'm already into this gun, but I'm fairly pissed.

At least its bore is nice.

They still have the same return policy where you don't get credit for shipping when you return and you have to return on your dime? Did you buy a broken stock or just get a broken stock?

Tang area cracks are the more common defect, drill, dowel with epoxy. Then bed recoil lug and tang area to prevent reoccurance.
