SKS - knowledgeable FFLs in San Jose

Hello Calgunners

Does anyone know of an FFL in SanJose area that will do a transfer for a Chinese SKS? Or any SKS for that matter. It seems there is some difficulties doing the transfers in some FFLs. Your knowledgeable input as always is greatly appreciated

My sources are local, and a lot of SKS enthusiasts have FFL03's and COE's.

But just be aware that Chicoms are the only SKS variant where some are C&R and some are not. It can be confusing and off putting to some FFL's who might not be familiar with them.

I saw a well known gun store manager flip out when two guys tried to do a PPT on an SKS that was configured with.....a SCARY fixed BAYONET!!

On top of that it is easy to accidentally make a legal SKS illegal with common aftermarket parts. Don't do it! Read the laws.

The effort is worth it though.... they are near and dear to my heart.

What are they charging for transfers in SJ? Just curious, PAX

Hi - Are you receiving one from out of state/in state? Remember - Most FFLs will charge a receiving fees which varies broadly - Also sales tax -

If this is a PPT(person to person transfer) - You should not have any issue - As long as the gun is proper as Bobby stated -

Rob Blank (Milpitas) and UG imports (Fremont) both charge $40.00 fees for receiving transfer -

That said - If you'd like to buy one locally - Put up a WTB thread - Someone will have something for sale -

Bit late to the party here, but I just had to SKS' trasferred by Dave at Farwest Photography. I cannot recommend him enough. $50 transfer fee, no nonsense storage fees, and genuinely friendly service.

I'm an SKS newbie. Dave took the time to show me the disassembly/cleaning process and provided me with a lot of valuable information.

I was watching a documentary this morning about all the middle east wars involving Israel and many Arab armies used SKSs in the late 50s early 60s.

Saigon- it is an issue. I had 2 x FFL01 freakout and fail to complete a ppt because they could not figure out how to input a Chinese type 56 sks .

It was not like they were mad because they "had " to do a ppt- hell they both started the paperwork. I told them to list its origin as Albania..only the 3rd FFL got it right

If you dont mind could you provide those problematic fields during the ffl process. I am gathering some of mine as well and possibly draw up a process for drosing an sks. Eg if chinesr type 56 do this....if albanian do this..etc.
