    Price check Gew 98

Hi guys, a local Turner's has one on the consignment rack. It's an Amberg 1917. Also has a couple"1920" stamps, so it appears it stayed in German service after WWII. Rifle is mismatched, and has been updated with S/42 sight. Bore is dark, but strong lands and grooves. Light patina in some places, but overall, I'd say it's about very good condition. The cleaning rod doesn't look original to me, but everything else appears correct to my untrained eye. They're asking $400, is this a good price? Thanks guys.

If you don't have a Gew 98 it's a good price. The Gew 98 with the updated rear sight is sometimes called Gew 98M by collectors, "M" for modified. It is an unofficial collector designation.

They are more practical shooters than the standard Gew 98 because the rear sight has a 100 meter minimum instead of the 400 meter minimum of the standard Gew 98.

They were used by the Weimar Republic and during the early Nazi years until there were enough K98k's to replace them.

    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

If it's not sporterized $400 seems pretty decent to me.

a little high but maybe not depending on condition and rarity. fair for sure.

It's already sold, the Norwalk store has 2 what looks to be a 88 Commission rifle but says it's Swedish. $450

So who ended up getting the Gew98? Factor in tax + DROs you're hovering right under $500.

I would buy it at that but for me the Gew98 is iconic because of the roller coaster site.

I saw it 2 weeks or so ago I thought it was a bit rough for the price.

Sold off my only Gew 98 last summer to splurge on some white framed Oakleys, popped collar pastel Izod polos, and spray tan.

Haven't found another one since that was decent and affordably priced. Dumb seller is dumb.

I want one with a Lange Vizier sight I don't know if it is just me but I rarely see them in SoCal gun shops or shows.
