Probably one of the ones that used to sell for $69 at Big5 just, a couple years ago.

I forgot about that price. I should have picked up a dozen of them back then. That was about six or seven years ago, right?

If that is a slight, it is misplaced, even if it's a 1938. As for 1903's, they are some of the nicest Mausers ever made. If a Turk has a good bore, it's a shooter, despite no blueing, mismatched #s, barely making headspace, and crappy stocks. I have nicer looking guns, but I like my hundred year old 03 very much.

Can't believe the Turkish mausers were that cheap! I just pick up my 2nd Turk for $135 - a 1944 K.Kale. It is completely matching, great bore and had a gallon of cosmoline. My first Turk was a GEW98 converted ATF rifle - $125.

One thing about the Turks - smooth action and great shooters!

The Turk in the link looks like an 1893 model. It is a straight stock and it looks like it used to have a magazine cutoff device. Very interesting, haven't seen one of these in years. A lot rarer than a 1903 or 1938.

The slight was directed at the people who maintained them, or at least mine. I forgot the hammer in the tool list - mine was definitely not maintained with finesse and precision. Still, it's a good shooter, if pretty rough. I couldn't expect more from a $40 gun.

The manufacturing was very good on all the Turks I saw - I understand the 1938s were made by Mauser and assembled by the Turks, but my Mauser history's a little rusty these days.

I've got two Turks and, despite the fact that the bolt practically flies out every time you chamber a round, and they are dark, loose and nasty, they shoot like the dickens... less recoil than my Yugo carbine too.
