NRA Sporter Scope

I have an NRA Springfield Sporter (bought Oct 1928 by my grandfather) which he shortly after had scoped with a Griffin & Howe side mount & some additional work done, all quite well for better or worse. I presently have an old steel 1" Weaver on it, the bolt handle clears the rear bell by a credit card's width. I see similarly set up 1903s using a scope with the rear bell just ahead of the bolt handle, obviously a slightly longer eye relief. Does anyone know the brand or model of a suitable older scope and if they are 1" types? I also have 7/8" rings for the G & H.

The '03 Springfield Rifles' Era by Campbell describes similar setups with the 2.5x Lyman Alaskan and 4x Lyman Challenger in 7/8" and the Lyman All-American at various powers in 1". The eye relief is 3 to 5 inches. You can find those scopes on Ebay and at gun shows. I bought two Lyman Alaskans at different gun shows and mounted one of them on my M1C.

I have a couple of 1" Burris LER's in 7x and 10x.

I'm familiar with the Alaskan, wasn't sure about the others - good to know. The Alaskans are a bit pricier than I recall. I'm going to the Reno show, maybe that's the place to check.
