    M1 Carbine

Hey all.... I've been searching and still confused....

I brought a 1943 M1 Carbine into calif a few years ago, it's been in the family since the early 50's, I had to register it...

    It's bone stock

    So my questions are

    1) do I have to re=register as an AW?
    2) Do I have to modify the mag release? (not gonna happen)
    3) I've been looking for a new composite stock, only ones I can find have a pistol grip, will this change my category?

    thanks in advance

    No.
    No.
    Yes.

And for the love of God...DON'T put a synthetic stock on it! Enjoy it in its historical splendor as intended.

Stock is so I can still enjoy it without fear of damaging the original.... and I'd like to add a nice rail to it

Unless it had an m1a1 folder stock, you never had to register it in the 1st place.

It would probably be cheaper and easier to find another wood stock you can use as a beater.

I put a WTB ad here on Calguns a couple of years back for an M1 carbine stock, for the exact same reason.

Purchased a very nice Blue Sky stock and handguard for $25 a couple of days later.

Shooter grade replacement stocks are not terribly expensive. It'll fit and function better than any aftermarket setup.

The M1 carbine is a fantastic rifle, enjoy it!

unless mint it most likely has replacement stock already on it, Most all M1s have been re arsenaled a few times and are not 100% original anymore.

If 100% correct then do not shoot it much anyway.

If you see a cone shaped flash hider for sale don't buy it. You can't put on on a California guns. It doesn't matter that the part is over 70 years old.

Synthetic stocks with no pistol grips exist you can check Gunbroker and eBay. As of now you do not need to register that gun as an assault weapon. You will need to block or remove from state any magazines for it over 10 rounds by July.

I've never seen a cone shaped flash hider for a carbine......
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!
