    Hakim in 8mm

So I am going to a Gun Auction this weekend and they have a few Hakim's for sale there. You guys here on Calguns have really helped me with my Semi auto Milsurp collection (Fn49, Mas 49/56, M1 Garand, and carbine).

So if you guys can help me what to look for. CAI imports good or bad?

And how to get a running correctly

Be very careful of the prices, a lot of people bid like the buyer fees and sales tax don't exist.

Do some research on completed gunbroker auctions and have a firm budget, good luck!

Make sure you get a key for the adjustable gas system - don't ever lose it. It's an uncommon funky shape and from what I understand aren't exactly common.

They are sold on GunBroker and eBay all the time.

A Great Rifle For Someone More Brave Than I.

I saw an iraq888 yt vid on this rifle. Accuracy dang impressive, appears to be engineered well. But Sheet Dude...

M1 Thumb is one thing, a mishap on a Hakim and you have a crippled thumb...not a sore thumb.

Someone posted this nice picture of an original Hakim combo tool.

I have one with my Hakim, but since I did experience Hakim thumb in the 80's, the rifle only sits in my arsenal, the only weapon I have that I know drew blood.

The Hakim is a very efficient and effective battle rifle. Once you master the procedure for safely operating the action the speed with which the rifle can be reloaded with clips is amazing. The muzzle brake is very effective and really tames the 8mm ball round. I owned two of these previously and won a steel plate run and gun action match with one in the mid 80s.

The rifle doesn't feel heavy and clumsy to you guys?

No more than an FN49, MAS49, or M1 rifle

Well, probably my crushed and bleeding thumb had more to do with my negative feelings toward the rifle. The direct impingement gas system blowing my hair up and putting spots of oil on my shooting glasses was noticeable too.

Difficult to find decent examples, most of the stocks are beat to hell and back. Egypt used these rifles until very recently (and some are probably still in use) as Police rifles after they were decommissioned as military rifles.

The real thing to look for is the quality of the stock. Originals in great shape will have a brass unit disc and sometimes Arabic script stamped into the wood at the wrist. These are original unmolested examples which are almost impossible to find.

Other than that they are ok rifles, but nothing like a real Ljungman in 6.5 swede. The 8mm mauser is just too much for the DI system, and as others have stated it spits some nasty carbon. It's not the the rifle is not capable in 8mm, it can handle everything functionally, but the added weight and power of the cartridge takes an elegant super accurate design and turns it into a bit of a beast.

If you can afford the Ljungman AG-42b there is no comparison.
