any idea as for how much a old Colt is worth? or how I can determine a fair value....

My buddy is willing to part from his Colt 1911 1919 marked "United States Property"

It looks pretty worn, I checked the serial and comes back to 1919!

I'm not that good in judging old gun's and bluing...

But from what I read I guess one could say...maybe 80%?

I was hoping to get a photo... but don't have one yet...only had the gun in hand a while ago before he even considered selling...

Any advise? as for what its worth? I'm not trying to under pay as he needs the cash...but I also don't wanna be that guy who pays way to much!

My 2 cents , A 1919 Colt will have a long trigger . small sights . blued with wood grips . The slide my Say Colt . The Frame near the trigger guard will have a Eagle head with S19 stamp . A lot of these have mixed parts . Very nice with all original parts 2000$ mixed parts poor blue 800 $ + . Mine was bought for 12$ in 1957 thru the NRA and is a WW2 rework , made in 1918 Parkerizing was done in WW2 when they would rebuild them . The old pistol is a 1911 ,At WW2 they were 1911A1 ,bigger sights shorter trigger . On Feb 5 Little Johns will be auctioning 25 collector 1911 Colts . You look at them online littlejohnscalifornia.com

The only serial number is on the frame. You really need a book to determine originality of old military pistols if you are not familiar with them. If you can post some clear, in focus pictures that are large enough to show some detail, we can maybe help.

Here is what they are trying to gouge folks on Gunbroker.com. for. Take it for it's worth.
