Garand issues...

Last time I shot my Garand it started to eject the en-bloc after each shot. Does anyone know what would cause this and how it can be fixed?

So you think it could be a weak clip latch spring? I was thinking about that, but the release "button" has a good resistance to it.

Okay, try this, ask her to take out the clip latch spring, stretch it a little (sorry) and put it back in (sorry). If it works okay now (the clip latch, not the other thing) you should get a new spring.

Firing out of battery can be dangerous, your discharge could result in eye damage, but you do avoid impregnating the barrel with your residue.

The OP is referring to a loaded en-bloc ejecting with unfired rounds.... not ejecting a case while the powder is still burning inside it..

To the OP, 30cal has good advise. I'd replace the clip latch spring anyway and get the clip latch and a bullet guids just to use if that spring doesn't cure the problem. If the srping cures the problem then you will have spare parts which every Garand owner should have.

Other possibilites per FM 23-5, TM-9-1005 etc....
is the clip latch itself (worn),
More possibilities...follower rod (bent) , op rod catch (worn or deformed), and follower arm (worn or the follower arm could be rubbing on teh op rod catch).
Try the clip latch spring first though.

good luck. Its probably the spring as its a common malady with rifles in storage for so long. Its a good idea to simply replace all the springs when you get the rifle.

Is your Garand a CMP purchase?

If it is, your very best bet is to contact their customer service. If your rifle is malfunctioning, they will very likely repair the rifle for you for free. You get (1) very knowledgeable gunsmiths working on your rifle, and (2) working on it for free.

I have a CMP Garand that needed work. They sent me the shipping label. I sent it out, and had it back in something like 9 days. Works fine now. It cost me $0 to send it back to get fixed.

If it is not a CMP purchase, get a knowledgeable gunsmith to work on it for you.
