Not totally sure, but if it's just beyond the expiration date you might give it a try. I just did mine right after receiving the renewal notice from the CADOJ. It came about a month before the due date, and got it back just before the old one expired. Beside it wasn't all that much to renew anyway. No sense in putting it off. Good Luck....

DOJ is presently taking 90 days to process renewals, compared to the 30 days they state on the form.

Just send in the renewal form. No need for a new livescan.

I too let my COE expire in 2015, had to do a whole new LiveScan and application. My COE came yesterday, last day of the year. I applied November 2, it took them 59 days. Feds had them beat by weeks, FFL03 only took three weeks.

I guess it depends on how long it was expired.

I've sent the renewal in late and they approved it, same yearly expiration date so you "lose" those months that you hadn't paid. they don't reset the expiration date to when you actually submit.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Mine was definitely reset, issued on December 28th, 2016 and expires December 27th, 2017.

Thanks everyone for the help!!! Yeah my COE expired on Feb 2016. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow if they are open and see if they need a new Live scan or not. Man I wish they would do a 2 or 3 year coe instead of every year.

I just spoke to them last week about an expired COE. I was told that you need a new livescan if it expired more than a year ago. i tried sending a renewal for a COE that was expired 2 years ago. It did not work. However I am pretty sure that my fingerprints have not changed.

I get a COE renewal letter in the mail, fill it out and send it in with my check

What am I am missing here?

Did you just forget to send it in?

I never got the renewal letter unfortunately and I totally forgot to check until I had to pick up some rifles I bought from Lock Stock and Barrel and realized it was expired.

I hear you there! The USPS is not what it used to be

I get my neighbor's mail all the time, by that I mean from other streets in the neighbourhood

I would call and complain, but it might make things worse

One time I sent the DOJ an inquiry letter with another check in case they lost the renewal

They cashed the second check as well as the first and sent (1) COE
