    Swedish Schmidt–Rubin

Was in a local shop picking up a pistol after a 10 day wait. Saw a Scmidt-Rubin on the shelf... Clearly had to take a look... Guy gives it to me, action feels good. There were about 20 people picking up ARs at the time, they all look over in wonderment as I pop the action open... And close it... None of them have a clue as to what it is. I look at the price tag... "Unfireable, parts gun" $80... Ugh... If it was an M1 or something I knew more about, I would have obviously snatched it up. But I'm thinking of going back to get it tomorrow. The guy wasn't sure... Said the "barrel was shot out or something"

What say you experts, should I go grab it? I honestly have never handled one and am a bit leery to get it being that its "unfireable"

Also, I can't give a whole lot of info on it because I don't know. The guy at the store didn't either.

Is it something that I could find parts for? Or is it a lost cause

Do you mean swiss? I don't think there is such a thing as a swedish Schmidt rubin

And yes worth it if it's something like a k31 even if bore is shot out. the mags alone go for ~50

I have a hard time believing that any Swiss rifle is completely shot out, but I have no idea what you are referring to without pics... Swiss guns used to be my thing.... also www.swissrifles.com can give you a lot of info plus a link to a forum where people can answer questions for you. Now that I think more about it, there are older Swiss rifles that will not shoot the newer ammo, I cant remember if the rounds fit or not, as in someone mistakenly firing the wrong stuff in it and damaging the gun. The most common are indeed the K31 ( I used to own 13 of em) and to me the chances of the bore being worn out in the time it was sent to the states would be slim. The Swiss always took immacualte care of their weapons. And BTW, the Swiss are straight pull, the Swedes are slender mauser actions. I still have a few of each.

Check to see if it has been converted to .308 or .30-30; a lot of them were and may be the cause of it "malfunctioning" and not using standard Swiss ammo in 7.5mm.

Do you have a photo of the magazine well area? Is the rifle complete otherwise? In either case, buy it. The magazines are worth almost that much by themselves.

This is a link to my Home Board.
Take a look and see if you can identify the rifle first, then we'll talk about the caliber, correct ammunition and correct reloading.

There are bare barrels out there, I'd snag it.
