Do C&Rs need to be serialized?

I have an old 22lr bolt action from the 40s with no serial number. Do the new serial requirements apply?

No. Serial number requirements are if you're making your own gun.

Many rifles and shotguns made before 1968 did not have serial numbers.. After 68 laws changed requiring all firearms to be serialized.

There are no requirements in any state of federal law to have new SN's applied to these old guns. When transferred, the dealer uses "NSN" (No Serial Number) in the place of a number. If you acquire one, and are a licensed collector you also just write "NSN" in the field in your bound book where the serial number would normally be written.

      Don'y sweat it....
