      Those fiberglass scabbards went the same route as the bayonet. The longer one is the M3, and the shorter one the M7. Some of the original M3s were cut down/remanufactured into a short version. You can tell by looking at where the fiberglass inserts into the metal top. If it goes straight in it is a cut down one. See hightower's pic of his cut down 1905 bayonets, both of those are cut scabbards. If there's a dent into the top, it was made short from the start. See hightower's pic of his 1943 UFH, you can see them clearly how they were supposed to be made. To make it harder to ID, a bunch of the longer scabbards broke when trying to shorten them, so new plastic was used in the old top, so some "new" scabbards had original metal tops used, and there's no way to tell.
