    My first 91/30

So my first 91/30 finally arrived.

Overall I'm very happy with the condition. It's a 1934 Tula hex receiver.

Ok, so here's my first stupid question... the front sight is offset to the right by an 1/8th of an inch or so. Is this part of the normal adjustment for getting it to hit on POA or has it been banged around and needs to be reset to the middle? Just curious because it looks kinda funky. (see pix below)

Excellent rifle, how does the rifling look?

          edit:

I believe the front sight moves side to side because there is no windage adjustment on the rear sight.

Front sight is where you make windage adjustments. The previous owner might have zeroed it that way?

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

rifling looks pretty good from what I can see... don't have a bore light (yet) but it is definitely crisp... just can't tell how much gunk might be in there. cleaning will be happening soon!

yeah, figured that was the deal w/ the front sight... looked at some other info online and it seems to be the case.

now I've got to wait for my ammo to arrive!

Usually there's a witness mark on the front sight that crosses over onto the base (on the muzzle side). Those generally should line up. However, shoot it first before you go messing with the sights, lest you just end up back where you started after burning up ammo needlessly .

right you are Fate... nice little line there to center it. thanks!

will definitely shoot it first and see what it does before I tinker with the sights.

Oh, and not sure if you know the trick with adjusting windage on a Mosin. If you are shooting too far to the right, move the front sight to the right. And vice versa. "Chasing the shot" is the term. Enjoy. Mosins are war horses, dripping in history.

Congrats on your first Mosin! It's a nice looking one. Now you'll need a carbine (M38 or M44) to keep it company.
