You should throw a WTB in front of your post, it might help you out

I have seen some put together repro PU snipers for $400 -$500. The step up to a legit PU sniper is only a few hundred more. I have two PU's and never regretted either purchase.

In reality, a MN PU sniper is about the only real WW2 sniper that is still somewhat in reach of most people. A legit 03A4 or K98 sniper is 3X as much and a Japanese sniper would be hard to get regardless of budget.

I didn't know that , the repo ones I e seen were around 650+ , I would like to collect some of the ww2 rifles and my only concern is getting a fake I've heard Mitchell's Mauser is notorious for fake kar98s , any leads on where to buy and how does one verify ?

Of the last 1,000 Mosin Nagants that I've seen for sale in the last few years, about 700 of them were 'Sniper Rifles' if you are inclined to listen to the seller(s).

That should pretty much do the trick. A WTB here and maybe over on gunboards and only deal with reputable sellers with extensive feedback. There was an outbreak of phony sellers targeting WTB ads across several forums a few weeks ago so watch out for that

There is a pretty good article on the various legit PU snipers here:

Note, the folks on that forum seem to be the only people that have doubts about the recent Molot or Tula processed PU rifles, so take that with a grain of salt.

Most of what they point out as suspicious can be attributed to the marking and proofing requirements of C.I.P. member states.

Discussed at length here, if you are interested.

One easy thing to watch out for, if it is a Century import with the dot-matrix billboard on the action, it is probably one of the recent reproductions,

There was 1 P/U at the Costa Mesa gunshow recently; the guy was asking $800. We do not live in a good state for Mosin deals.

If it was an honest complete PU in good condition, that is not a bad price.

Totally untrue. They can be tough to find but me and others here have found excellent deals on Mosins. I have never paid over about $200 or so for a M28 or 28-30 and some I purchased as recently as early this year as but one example.

about four years ago big 5 sold put together PU snipers. I bought one for 699.They are correct as far as repos go. The scope and mounts are made in russia. sadly the one i got had a very dark bore and was made in 1939 four years before they made the first PUs. i bought it because i never thought i would get a real one. Later i got a nice 1944 TULA PU for 750 dollars.

My matching 1939 Izhevsk appeared to never had been fired outside the factory, and it was a real shooter. But the front sight was way too short, it shot over a foot high at 100 yards.

So I mounted a reproduction hybrid PU mount made by InterOrdinance (no longer made) and had the original bolt bent by JimTheBoltMan. I refinished the nice but flaking stock with boiled linseed oil topped with spar marine verithane because I intended to use it in the field. Shoots great with my reloads, 3 shots less than an inch.

I'm looking to get rid of it because I never shoot it anymore and I need space in my safe. I also have a few hundred rounds of Cz milsurp silvertip, and a few hundred pieces of brass and reloading dies. Was hoping to sell it local, kinda wary of shipping this thing, but make me an offer if you're interested. PM me if you have any questions, I don't check here too frequently.

The one at the show was seemingly original - its condition was we'll say "less than good".
