This may not be worthy of it's own thread, but I am throwing it out there anyway....
I picked up a Turkish Mauser many months back, really cheap. When I finally got around to inspecting it I discovered no spring tension in the ejector / bolt removal lever (nomenclature probably wrong..)
Well it turned out to be cosmoline and gunk rather than any missing or broken parts. After disassembling and cleaning, it snaps shut like a Turkish BOSS.
We went out for a desert shoot on Saturday and I grabbed it on impulse from the "Guns I don't really care about" safe. The intent was to consume some of the grubby Turk and Persian ammo I have sitting around.
I apologize that I didn't take any range pics, but here is the rifle in question, which I consider(ed) as a mixmaster oddball doorstop future trade fodder drive it like a rental safe peasant.
Well, much to my surprise, this old boomstick shoots very well. I had a bag of dirty Persian ammo and a bunch of open faced hot turkey sammowich on stripper clips. The old girl gobbled it up with nary a single hangfire or dud (other than the shooter.)
While no challenge to the average unspecial forces calguns virtual cybersniper marksmen who get bored at any ranges less than 1,000 yards, I set up a 10" plate slightly downhill at about 175 yards. This old rifle made that plate sling over and over. The incessant gong strikes across the quiet desert would make Chuck Barris proud.
My only issue that I noticed was the rear barrel band started shifting forward under recoil and I noticed the retaining screw must have came loose (or perhaps was already missing...I dunno). Since this rifle went from zero to hero in my regard for it I need to find a correct replacement screw, but it looks very tiny, with a hole in the barrel band on one end but I don't know if it is even supposed to go through to the other side. It will be fun trying to source this little part I guess.

Mine is stamped Gewer 98, 1930 something.
