    Finding a Decent Luger.......

    Guten abend meine freunde!

As one of my few remaining C&R quests, I would like to find a decent Luger, preferably in 9mm. Is it fair to say that you cannot get near anything worth buying for less than $1500 - $2000? I would even settle for a post war imported version, but of course a pre or early WWII is more interesting. I do understand the design is somewhat fragile, so I'd probably never shoot it.

I bought some ammo and spare magazines, I will definitely shoot it!

I would appreciate any commentary or leads from the board. Luger pics are always welcome too. I do not expect anything collectible to come cheap, I just don't want to get fleeced either..

    Herr Bob

Epilogue: I found a Luger for just sort of $1K in nice condition and matching numbers except the magazine. I would have purchased either caliber but I was glad to get one in .30 Luger. Here are a few pics from the seller, it will probably be a week or so before it arrives here at the compound.

I have not seen anything worth buying in long time at that $$$ range.

I found both of mine on the Luger forum. The last one I met the seller in Houston while there on business. She made it through both wars. Those guys know their stuff.

She's on the right...the Luger on the left is an example made in 1940.

I'd give Bob Guerin a call ((562) 697-1948). If he is still in the business he might be able to help you out. I've seen a small portion of his collection.

When I was 8 years old, I used to go camping with my best friend and his dad. His dad had a Luger and would let us shoot it. My first exposure to firearms, 40 years ago. It was very cool. Doesn't address your search and I don't have any pictures to share, but hope you find one.

            Bobby,
Simpsons ltd. has a lot of Lugers in that price range. If you're looking for a WW2 era pistol then obviously you'll be paying a premium. But, for just your "run of the mill" luger they have a lot and consistently get more in weekly.
Simpsons grading is right on, the prices seemed high. But, after what you see people asking for in the MP, it's not that bad.

For those prices I should start selling. The going price for a shooter is $800 and a good shape low end collectible is $1200. Atfter that the price rises and condition with scarcity means big bucks. Check out Checkpoint Charley, he is out of Wisconsin and has a very high rating in the Luger community and is less expensive as Simpsons.

That is a beautiful collection of pistols. I am fortunate to have acquired a nice P.38, but the rest are all on the "Want" list. Thanks for posting that. I admit I have no idea what that weapon is in the middle. It looks rare, and expensive...

A quick check of Gun Brokers shows you're right about prices. I didn't know they had gone up that much. I bought our 1938 Luger for $700 about 6 years ago. Think my son paid $800 for our 1917.
Here's a pic of our German handguns.

Yes thank you. I bought it from a fellow in New Jersey. Little did I know that FFL's collect sales tax... I will only be buying FTF from here on. The FFL fees were up around $300.

Interarms Mauser pistols can be found in that price range plus they are very shootable.

The weapon in the middle is a 1892 Borchardt, the predecessor to the Luger. You are right, they are rare and expensive.

I picked up my Luger here locally for $995 OTD from a local gun store. It is a pre WWI DWM dated 1913.

Got to shoot a Luger on Saturday at the Oroville shoot.....very nice gentleman and a very nice 1916 Luger.
Funny....I always thought they were on the smaller side, but it was a pretty beefy pistol.

I wish I had bought one 7 or 8 years ago.
