Webley MARK VI 455

I was off today and went by the bank. As I was leaving I noticed a few vehicles parked out side the local Pawn & Gun shop that was just down the street. The shop had taken on a few feet of water back in August when it flooded here. It appeared that they were open so, I went on over. It was nice to see that they were open and had the place pretty much back together. In the gun shop they had new glass counters and had a pretty good stock of guns. I was shooting the bull with a few friends that were in the shop when I spotted a large revolver in one of the cases. I asked to look at it. It was a Webley MARK VI in pretty good shape. The cylinder looked up good and was not shaved for 45 ACP. The sweet thing is that it was priced at $349.99. I asked about the price and the guy behind the counter said that if it were military marked it would have been priced higher.
Some one had cleaned up the barrel a little, but I wanted it for my collection so, I asked if they could work on the price. I know that I am evil for asking but it never hurts to try. I was told that I could have it for $300. I said I would take it if that was the price out the door. Would you believe that they said OK. I know, I'm a bad man and a thief.
Well here are the pics and you can see that it does have the broad arrow stamps. All numbers are matching. It also has the broad arrow to broad arrow stamp on the left side of the frame.













I looked through my old ammo and found three cartridges.

Not bad at all for an uncoverted one. You going to set up to reload 455? The ammo and brass is rather pricey.

I have so many guns in my collection I haven't fired, but I do want to fire this one. I may pick up a box of ammo some time down the road.
Milsurps in my area have dried up, I was lucky to find this one. I have had pretty good luck at the same shop over the years. I bought my first 1917 Colt there and my 1911 too. I have bought 20 to 30 guns there in the last 10 years. I'm glad they are open again.

Fiocchi makes factory .455 rounds, no need to reload if you only want to shoot it occasionally.

Any unit markings on it?

Nice Webley. Maybe a good soaking in ATF will take some of the patina off of the metal.

Yes it is. I don't understand why they didn't think it was military marked as it clearly has government acceptance stamps.

I have a S&W .455MkII that was produced during the same time period for the British government with the same sort of markings.

Great find. Bite the bullet and spend the money to get brass and reload. There are a few companies out there that sell moulds specific to the .455

Fiocchi only makes sporadic runs of 455 if they are even still making it so it is best to grab some ASAP if it hasn't dried up. I had a S&W in 455 and I remember disliking paying $40-50 a box for ammo a year or two ago but later seeing it sell for double.

When I was in the store I didn't see the arrow to arrow, but noticed it in the pics. This one makes my forth British revolver in my collection.
Some of the patina is actuality rust and will need to be cleaned up.

Not going to be reloading for it, I don't plan to shoot it that often.

You probably already know this, but take the grips off and soak it in ATF for about a week, then wipe it down. I bet it will look better when you are done. If there are any crusty rust spots, rub them with the edge of a nickel coin. It will take the rust off and leave the finish untouched.
