    C&R Storage Requirements?

Greetings. I'm new here and though I haven't posted before, what I've read in these forums has caused me to apply for a C&R FFL.

I searched for the answer to this in the forums and all over the Web and was unable to find an answer.

Does my C&R FFL dictate where I store my firearms? Do they have to be stored at the address listed on my C&R application or can I keep some at home and some in my father-in-law's gun safe in a different location?

My reading from the ATF is that they can inspect "the premises, including places of storage" if they have a warrant, but without a warrant, I can request the inspection be held at the ATF office.

Anyone want to douse me with knowledge that I'm correct in reading that I can store where I please?

    Thanks!

The law says you can keep some of your collection at a "separate warehouse used by the licensee solely for storage". They don't define "warehouse" though.

Since you can request an inspection at the local BATFE office, you can pretty much keep your stuff anywhere, as long as you can collect it all together on short notice. Would you be able to get to your father-in-law's house to pick up your guns for an inspection at any time? Even if he is out of town? And keep in mind that if for some reason BATFE gets a warrant to search your licensed premises, they will be able to search every place you have your collection stored. Your friends and family might not like that if you have stuff stored at their house.

You could always log out some firearms to your father-in-law, if he doesn't mind giving you his Driver's License number for your bound book. Then you could borrow them from him while you visit.

Hmmm. Thanks for your reply. I had thought of the "searching the storage premises" angle on my drive home last night.

This stuff makes me mad. It's so dense that you're almost guaranteed to break some law along the way. Is there anything in there that requires me to reveal the location of the storage premises? Or would a call to the storage premises asking someone to bring me my guns for inspection be an illegal "transfer" to that person? And if they revoke your license for refusing, what happens to your guns? Misdemeanor, felony?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I want to do this right. Worst case, I've got an excuse to get a new gun safe, right?

      Cheers!
