    Aim surplus Mauser question

    Hi,

So I just stopped by the lgs to put my m48 from aim surplus in jail. I noticed that the cleaning rod was loose and not anchored into the stock. It appears that the threaded end is just boring into wood. So how is that fixed and shouldn't a B1 grade rifle be in better condition?

If the cleaning rod screws into a nut in the stock like a K98k, you need this http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/m98msrclea...dstocknut.aspx
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

You might check to be sure the cleaning rod threads don't have a burr, or the channel isn't stuffed with cosmoline.

Don't worry about it. Old guns are graded on the condition of the wood and metal, not on the cleaning rod (which you will never use). And even so, it's a B, not an A.

Perhaps in your world. I find it irritating when I receive a rifle without the rod or missing the nut which is likely the OP's issue. Whether or not I ever use it is irrelevant. On some Mausers, the rod is serial matched to the rifle and can add or subtract significant value to the firearm.

Rguns has them for $250. I had a hit/miss experience. Got one that seen quite a bit of use, but was all matching numbers and will make a nice shooter. The other was much nicer looking, but total mixmaster and missing parts, which I am not thrilled about.

It could be filled up with cosmoline too.

The Aim Surplus M48 I got was not bad. The bore was plugged with cosmoline so I couldn't tell the condition. When I get it home in 10 days, I'll be able to tell what I really paid for.
