    The Difference in Ammo

I just have a question on what ammo to use in a 1891 Argentinian rifle it is a 7.62x54 but I don't know the difference between that and the 7.62X54R can I shoot both. I know it is a stupid question but I don't want to get hurt so I would rather ask you guys and feel stupid than got to the hospital.

Does anyone know who has any on the shelf in the L.A. area. Maybe Ammo Bros?

    Thanks for the help.

    It's a 7.65x53:

    Many companies sell it online:

All of your ammunition needs in one place. Our ammo includes military surplus, Hornady, Winchester as well as many other brands. We offer bulk and cheap priced ammo for your ammunition needs at Ammo To Go.

    The list is much longer.

If you want to buy it locally, Ammo Bros is indeed probably your best bet. I've seen some quite obscure calibers there. Won't be that cheap though. I usually just buy ammo online, there's a greater variety there, and the price is usually better.

Thanks for the info. How can I get it inspected to make sure it is the same caliber. It looks aftermarket to me.

Should be stamped into the barrel or receiver.

some are marked, some not. i bought prvi partizan at the gun show for 13 bucks a box and it's great, and reloadable. you can order it from grafs or midway, it's all good quality and fairly inexpensive. i believe hornady makes ammo for the 7.65 as well. please DO NOT fire 7.62x54r in the 1891 mauser.

also, '91 mausers were never rechambered by any arsenal that i know of, so if it's been sporterized, it doesn't necessarily mean it's not chambered in the original cartridge.

You can't chamber 7.62x54R in a 7.65 mauser rifle --The 7.62x54R wont even fit the rails - Too fat by at least.050 and rimmed -- Although the 7.62x51/308 is also too fat you might pound one in --Which might prove interesting --
