uli thinks he can do a better job making an investment cast garand style receiver than century arms... i think he's wrong.

That's a shame. They'll take perfectly good parts kits and turn them into the same sort of dreck that they already sell. Hopefully, when the rifles come apart due to the craptastic IO quality receiver, the parts kits will be salvageable...

You can build one on a modified Garand receiver. Is not a cheap project, but its doable. Ours cost around $2000 all together.

Its a shame IO got them. Someone else could have actually built working guns out of the kits.

Uli looks like a movie star. Maybe if they spent less money on the hairdresser and the suits they could make a good gun.

I think it's more along the lines of SARCO Inc. getting the kits and barrels.

Purchasing from IO is an exceptionally ignorant choice for reasons already discussed all over the internet.

A good article on building a BM59 is in Firearms News Volume 70, Issue 21.

                            Honest Question

Here's an honest question for all of the Legal Beagles to ponder...

If a Springfield BM59 is specifically banned by name in CA, then what would be the legal status of a standard Springfield M1 Garand receiver being sent to a shop like James River to be converted to a BM59 clone in late 2016?

Who is the manufacturer under CA law?
Would the newly cloned rifle be clearly free of banned status in CA?

The answers directly influence my purchases.
                            Thank you for any insight.

Sorry for any perceived thread hijack, none meant.

Don't call it a BM59 then. Obviously anything made on a kit will use a garand receiver, and would be registered as such. No real "home build" possibilities so you will never be the manufacturer. All rules still apply like 16" barrel, etc. Detach mag is fine as long as it's a compensator/brake and not a flash hider.

Unless it was made by Beretta no receiver is going to be marked BM59.
