Gangster C+R

I read a lot about these rifles and the (in)famous gangster gunsmith who re-worked the originals, full auto 1911's and sawn off BAR's, etc.

This is quite fun and on a C+R ticket, too.
You might have to think about the fact it is hardly in it's original configuration and how that affected it's C+R status.
Although the replica form it is now in, is of an authentic and very collectable 1920's origin.
That's all material for debate.

Really just posting for fun, if you're a fan of 20's gangster lore.

Never heard of .351 WSL (Winchester self loading) but after a quick wiki search it seemed to have packed a decent punch. 1,900fps and 1,400ft. lbs.

Oh, it was considered a very capable round in it's day.

There was a large-lot of period ammo, all in original boxes in a gun-shop in the Valley - for a little while I searched for a rifle to buy, a s a reason to pick up the ammo. I was successful in neither venture, but, did learn a little about the round.

There is quite a collector base of post-1934 NFA collectors, who specialize on Gangster arms - these are high end firearms, the cars are also collectable.
The guns are Colt Monitor's, BARS, Winchesters and of course original 1921 Thompsons - none of these are entry level items.

I have one and reload for it. Brass, bullets, extra mags aren't all that hard to get and in a pinch 300 AAC brass works fine too. Very reliable short range shooter. Reloading is very easy, similar to 30 Carbine.

The sling on the pictured one is interesting as it allows the rifle to be broken down without having to undo the keepers, brass hooks.

Shameless plug - if anyone's looking for a very nice conventional shooter in NorCal I have a 2nd 1907 on consignment for way under $400.00 at Krausewerk in San Mateo.

Well if your going to bubba a classic I guess we can all be happy it wasn't a colt monitor or a BAR he chose to mess up. With that being said I'm sure it's a bunch of fun to shoot! And the price is cheap!! $350???

I am sorry for repeating this comment but I cannot see the appeal of this rifle to a roaring 20's lawman. I get the fact that it is a well built and reliable rifle with great ballistics, but a bad guy (or bad guys) with Thompsons or BAR's could easily cover each other with suppressing fire to either get away (or worse) rush the law man. We LEO's think it is rough nowadays, but it was probably far more violent in those days.

Bad guys with Thompsons and BAR's were the exception rather than the rule, even back then.

The FBI used the '07 as well. It was pretty much the only "carbine" sized automatic on the market at the time.

The FBI also used the Remington model 81 in .30 Remington. Here is a picture of the gun vault at Quantico back in the 40's...a lot of model 81's.
