      Estate sales like actual in person ones? Those are always a bust because retirees get there during the week. Scamslist is almost like a flea market unless you get lucky with a local guy but those are few and far between.

      What other auctions are there? I frequent;
      Gun Auction
      Guns America
      Guns International

        Rock Island Auctions have pretty much everything from $50k+ pieces to more entry level stuff.

            That's where it helps to have an FFL and have 50k to throw around. The winners are those that can come in and offer big amounts with minimal hassle to the family/estate. I've found it a world impossible to break into as a amateur. You don't even really need to know much about the guns to be successful there, especially when family are stuck wondering how to liquidate a collection, they are motivated to sell cheap.

            The other great point to be at in the system is an auction house appraiser. One of the finest collection on calguns is a result of that business, but you really need to know your stuff to be good at that, it's not easy.
