    old colt 1911

A few of us went to the west end gun club Tuesday and usually their are retired guys with interesting guns their kind of just hanging out. This one guy had too many to mention very nice old rifles & pistols in his truck. He had a 1911 colt made in 1918 . He was more than happy to let all three of us shoot it. 98 years old and shot like it was new. He also had a sporter endfield and K98. Said he paid 100 each for them. The Mauser had a 60s scope with optics that were VERY clear. He also had a model 1917 revolver in very nice shape.

If that old Colt pistol didn't have crooked front strap checkering with a list of acceptable excuses than the it obviously can't be any good.

Those 1911 were meant to be shot. I always feel bad for safe queens. On the other side, if that 1911 is still with original finish, all mint, they used soft steel back in the days, and you're risking a crack on the frame, and that pistol could worth from 3000-4000 to 400-500 bucks. Your call.

You could tell it spent a lot of time in a holster. The finish was worn on most of the edges. He said it had a 1943 barrel.

Love meeting ol' timers at small ranges. I met a gentleman at range once that had really neat guns. A S&W .38 wadcutter only pistol. This thing was accurate! Shotgun hulls at 25m were no problem. By far the most accurate handgun I have ever handled.

He also had a TC contender pistol in 45/70. That was fun. Luckly he told me to watch the TC trigger guard or things could have got painfull. He brought the 45/70 out because his buddy with the .500 claimed to have the most powerful handgun in the world. I hit a plow disc at 50 yards with the 45/70, 1 for 2. I missed 3 times with the .500 S&W.

Love meeting people at the range (when im not getting swept with an M4gery)

Reading post like this make me feel old.
I also have a 1911 made in August of 1918. It's a great shooter. When I take it to the range other shooters all want to hold it. You should see the look on their faces when I ask if they would like to shoot it.
I do the same with my Colt 1917.
It's nice to own a bunch of old guns, but it's fun to take them to the range and let other shooters play with them. I always bring extra ammo with me.
Do not relish to feel what the men that used these weapons felt when they saw the elephant. For the elephant has tusk and to see him is to have his tusk dig deep into your soul. You will always have a part of you that will be cold and empty.

I don't shoot mine often,it's original including its barrel with a perfect bore
in a time of corrosive Ammo. Thirty years ago when I got it I was a
younger man at 37! Not so young today. Gotta love these pieces that are
almost 100 and still function like they were designed!

I have a first year commercial production (1912) 1911 with serial number C2xx. That one stays with me and will be passed down to my son. I just love it.

My friend also has a 45-70 TC contender, People that have shot one before usually want no part in shooting it another time. It will usually win a who has the most painful pistol pissing contest.
