A few years ago I came across a 100 rd belt of metal linked .308 dummy rounds. I separated it into 10 round segments. Does that make them legal? Now and after 1/1/17?

Might want to reread that law. You had to own the GUN before 2000.

So if you owned a 1919 w spades or a mg42,m53 now made featureless, you CAN run the 50 to 200 rd belts legally since NO 10 rd belts were ever officially made for them.

there are other details i can go into but this the short of it..

Disintegrating metal links are now considered in the same class as a magazine rebuild kit from my reading of the new reg.

So separating them into 10 rounders is no longer OK? What are you supposed to do?

If it is a Browning type gun then cloth belt segments in 10 round lengths. If it is a MG 34/42 type gun I think it becomes more difficult to comply.

I tried some 10 round cloth belts in December and they worked fine.
