    Krag carbine

Hey guys so this is a fairly quickly question. I am looking at a krag carbine this one is marked 1899. From my research all 1899 krag are carbines so no issue there wether it's fake or not ?

Without detailed pictures and descriptions it's any one's guess. It could still be faked.

Picture is hard to see around the front sight, but if there is a "band" under and around the barrel that holds the sight, it's a dead give-away it's a standard rifle with carbine stock. Carbines merely had the front sight attached to the barrel, no ring. See below by example; it should not look like the one with the band. It should look like the 2nd photo.

Also, that stock in that photo has been sanded/refinished; no doubt about that.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Hand guard doesn't look correct for a carbine . . . missing the hump that protects the rear sight from the scabbard.

From what i have read the one with the hump is the early models. The later ones from 1901-1903 had the straight upper handguard.

You may be correct . . . I believe it depends which rear sight was installed.
