SMLE built date

Hey guys well now I'm curious as to the built dates on my C&Rs.

I have a No1 MkIII that was F.R in 1947.

It has a matching end cap , barrel , receiver and stock. The bolt does not match .

The serial number series were repeated over the years.

The butt socket should have the original date and maker stamped on it on the right side of the rifle.

What do you think it means if there is nothing in the right side ? The right side would usually have the year and factory ?

Pretty much means this enfield was reborn in 1947. Correct, the right side does usually have the year and factory, but this one has been scrubbed. Ishapore in India refurbished a lot of rifles during this time period and would often scrub the wrist markings like this. As I understand it, it's next to impossible to know the original date on the receiver after this has been done (unless the original marking wasn't completely removed)

Check the serial number on the receiver then look at the s.n. on the barrel. If they match and there isn't a lined out s.n. on the barrel, check the date stamped there. There is a chance that is the build date of the rifle.

SMLE-MAN has given the best advice. Depending on what the barrel date is you could construe it to be close to the receiver date but there will still be uncertainty. Barrel date is usually stamped on the left side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver shoulder, maybe in the shadow area of your image (above).

Appreciate all the info guys. I will tear this girl down again once I get home see if any dates appear on the barrel.
