    Had to put things up

Most of you have heard about the flooding in Louisiana. 80% of the homes in my home town of Denham Springs, LA. were flooded the other week. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get any water.
Early on a Saturday the water was coming up and I was out in waist deep water getting family to safety. I went back to my house to get a few things around 10:30 am and tried to leave my house about 30 min. later, but wasn't unable to get more then 1/2 mile from my house. Where there had been 3 inches of water, there was now 3 feet.
My neighborhood was like an Island and it looked like the water was coming our way.
Now I have a few guns and water in the house would have been very bad so, I got my neighbor's son to come over and started putting guns in the attic. Well I say my attic, it's more like a crawl space.
I didn't have time to keep track of what we were putting up, anything with a wood stock was fare game.
After about an hour and a half of putting guns up my helper had to leave and I still had 150 or so guns that were still not in the attic. I was tired so I made coffee an went out and sat on my front patio to see if the water was close to the house. The water stopped at the front of my neighborhood, about 1/8 of a mile from my door. The bad thing is, my mom's house is just under a mile from me and she got five feet of water in her house.
My mother and one brother are living with me now and it may be a while before I can get the guns out of the attic.

Do not relish to feel what the men that used these weapons felt when they saw the elephant. For the elephant has tusk and to see him is to have his tusk dig deep into your soul. You will always have a part of you that will be cold and empty.

Wow. It wouldn't take me but 1 min to move my guns.

I need more. Sell me some of yours 😉

Glad to hear you didn't get any flooding in your house and were able to move everything into the attic.

I wish you the best of luck Gunny.

I really enjoy your threads about the guns that you saved by bringing them back with your experience and knowledge.

I know you'll have your hands full for a while but keep us informed on how things are going for you and your family.

Oh and If your attic beams start sagging we will be happy to take some of the guns off your hands.

I would still keep an eye on rust and corrosion. All of them will need a good cleaning after being in that inevitably swampish environment for any length of time.

I hate the 11 months or so of hot weather in California every year, but at least the powder stays dry.

I wish you and all the good folks in Louisiana the best for a fast recovery.

That's so crazy, I would cringe just thinking about all my investment guns being that close to water and moisture. Almost need to buy a 55 gallon drum of cosmoline!

I'm glad you and your family are safe and dry. My father's family is from Slidell. We have property there and try to visit often. We know a little about the devastating effects of storms in the region. We lost dad's uncle to Katrina.

Wow. I hope your ceiling can handle the load.

Those pics would be fun to see how many could be recognized just from butts or muzzles.
