    CZ vz. 82 questions

I am looking at maybe buying a CZ vz. 82 in the future, but have run into the problem of its standard magazine being 12 rounds. First question: Has anyone here seen 10 round magazines for this pistol for sale? I could not find any looking around on the web some. The current production CZ 83 also is sold with 12 round mags outside of CA, and I couldn't find any 10 rd. mags sold for it either, which probably would fit into a vz. 82. Second question: If I found a source for the 10 rd mags could I just buy a vz. 82 without the magazine from a seller out of state, right? Third question: Could the 12 rd mags be permanently modified by an out of state (or in state?) gunsmith dealer and then sold to me in CA and all be legal? Fourth question: The CZ vz. 82 is listed as C&R by BATFE. But this doesn't help me at all in CA if I had a C&R license, right? Fifth question: Have any of you shot this pistol before, and what is your opinion of it?

Yes, I bought mine from Midway. They were the Cz83 10 rounders. If you a have a C&R license you can get a substantial discount.

Second question: If I found a source for the 10 rd mags could I just buy a vz. 82 without the magazine from a seller out of state, right?
Yes, I think J&G will sell you either w/o mag or a 10 rounder. Check with them 1st.

Third question: Could the 12 rd mags be permanently modified by an out of state (or in state?) gunsmith dealer and then sold to me in CA and all be legal?
If the vendor and you can be absolutely positively sure that you can't fit 11 rounds then I don't see why not. I think the CADOJ has guidelines for modifying mags. Others might know.

Fourth question: The CZ vz. 82 is listed as C&R by BATFE. But this doesn't help me at all in CA if I had a C&R license, right?
If you had a COE then you can cash and carry at a willing 01FFL. You still have to pay DROS and whatever transfer fee(s) they charge. You can also go out of state to buy and self register when in state (assuming you have and 03 FFL)

Fifth question: Have any of you shot this pistol before, and what is your opinion of it?
Yes, I have. It's pretty accurate and more comfortable to shoot than my Makarov. I like it a lot. The size is not much smaller than a compact 9mm though.

answered your original post in the handgun forum

#1) Has anyone here seen 10 round magazines for this pistol for sale?

J&G Sales in Prescot, AZ had 9 round magazines for the CZ-82.
Don't know if they have any in stock anymore.

#2) If I found a source for the 10 rd mags could I just buy a vz. 82 without the magazine from a seller out of state, right?

      Yes.

#3) Could the 12 rd mags be permanently modified by an out of state (or in state?) gunsmith dealer and then sold to me in CA and all be legal?

      Yes.
The 12 round magazines can be permanetly modified to 10 rounds. This can be done out-of-state or in CA (import the magazine parts and do it yourself).

#4) The CZ vz. 82 is listed as C&R by BATFE. But this doesn't help me at all in CA if I had a C&R license, right?

Since CZ82 is a C&R handgun, it is exempt from the CA DOJ approved list.
However, C&R handguns still have to be processed by a FFL dealer. Unless the C&R FFL aquires it in person out-of-CA and brings it back to CA. If done this way, the C&R FFL has to report the C&R handgun to CA DOJ via a form they mail in.

#5) Have any of you shot this pistol before, and what is your opinion of it?

      I'm searching for one.
Handled and fired one before, though it was a good pistol.

Thanks zatoh and Quiet, your replies were very helpful. It's strange how MidwayUSA sells the mags, but not the CZ-USA online shop. It looks like a good little pistol. I've been looking at budget pistols with somewhat less recoil than a 9mm and the vz. 82 looked like the best value out there. J&G has good prices too. http://www.jgsales.com/product_info....oducts_id/1604

I bought one from J&G about two years ago and brought it back to CA. I modified the two mags that came with it by welding a steel post on the floorplate of the mag so now they only accept 9 rounds.
I like it alot, very ergonomic.
I also found more mags, 10 rounders, on gunbroker.com. I think I paid 12 or 13 dollars each. The mags for the CZ 83 will also work in the CZ 82.

          Go for it.

The .380acp version of the mag for the CZ83 will work in the CZ82.

I got my first CZ82 from AIM Surplus, they'll just pull the 12-round mags out of the box before they ship it to you. I don't know if they still have these in stock or not.

                Yes on all counts.

I just sold mine as i found it jolting to shoot. Hurt the web of my hand and bit my trigger finger. But i have large hands. It was accurate though. Strangely i prefer the Cz52.

Speaking of. I have 900 rounds of 9x18 wolf and silver bear for sale in the WTS parts forum here. Take a look if anyone is interested.

I'm interested what you mean by "jolting." Does that imply you felt its recoil with a sharp kick? I can shoot pretty well with my Browning Buckmark .22 pistol, but when I try to shoot my dads' 9mm CZ75 and Walther P38 I am lucky to hit a 1' square at 15 yds and I have difficulty controlling the kick. My hands and arms are not very meaty, so I think that is partly the problem.

I have thinnish large hands. The recoil hurt the webbing between my index and thumb. That was gripping it like normal. I adapted, and had seen other mention this on another forum, by holding it a bit away from your palm. Like holding it forward with your fingers. Helped but felt unnatural. It also, not matter how i held it, bit my trigger finger. Not sure if it was the trigger or the guard as both have sharp hard edges. My friend with big meaty hands said the same thing. He's 6'3 and 250, I'm 6'1 and 165. So two totally different builds.

I have other pistols i enjoy shooting so this one got sold. But... I see mention of others loving it. At 169 bucks at J&G sales right now with out mags, it might be worth finding out if you like it. If not, sell it. I sold mine the first day i posted it on here. Plenty of folks like them.

And buy my ammo while you're at it so i can get another K31. ;-)

Thanks for the details, Craig. I am about the same build as you, 6' 160lb. and thin fairly large hands. Maybe wearing some light gloves would make it more comfortable to shoot. Hey, don't buy up all the K31's, OK? That's the next rifle I want. I'm wondering how long the prices are going to stay low on such a quality, accurate rifle. Do you buy yours from importers or other owners/gunshops/online?

Both. They seem to be hovering about 220 right now. I remember them at Big 5 for 79. I kick myself every day for not buying one then. I just didn't know what they were so ignored them.

yeah. i've heard gloves might help the cz-82. Maybe if had practiced more with it too.

                        Good luck with it.

OK, so now when I have the money to buy one J&G Sales doesn't have them in stock on their web page anymore. Where else can I get one without a magazine or with 10 rd. mags?
