    BAR Question

As years pass sometimes our memory fails us I was in viet Nam 4-68 4-69. We never used the BAR but i definitely saw ARVIN troops training with them. Am i mistaken or did some BARs have a tulip type end on the barrel ?. I was watching Gun Stories [ my favorite gun show ] And it was about the model 1919 machine gun. I did see some 1919s had a tulip end on the barrel. Maybe what i saw was soldiers humping 1919s to the firing range not a BAR..I did a search and found no BAR with the tulip end of the barrel.

What's a "tulip"? Do you mean a cone shaped flash hider? I know they have them for the 1919-A6, but I have never seen one on a BAR.

There was a late model BAR flash-hider that was a pronged model much like, if not exactly like, the ones used on M-14's. Said to make the BAR "sing".

More like the T37 flash hider for the M1D.

Sort of a hi jack, but did the bolt hold open on the last round or close on an empty chamber.

It looked like the flash hider on the British jungle carbine.

It will close on an empty chamber after the last round is fired.

A loudener! U.S. BAR's didn't have this type of flashhider but the Belgian and Egyptian ones did. They were chambered in 30-06, .308, and 8mm. Other countries used them as well, although not sure about the megaphone flash hiders. For sure the Belgian BAR type D had it though. Most of these also incorporated a pistol grip in the stock.

If you don't have it yet John, definitely invest in Small Arms of the World. If you ever need to borrow it, i'm not far away.
