    Trade Advice Requested Please!

I have a Last ditch Type 99 Arisaka I have been trying to sell. Near mint with matching numbers, nice rifle. It has not sold at $275 and I am uninclined to lower the price much more.

A fellow wants to trade for a Italian Carcano "Suprema" which I believe is a 91/38 carbine in 6.5 Carcano. Very clean, perfect bore, etc. I see that ammo isn't hard to find and PPU makes it.

Sorry I don't have pics at the moment, but does this seem like a relatively equitable trade?

From a personal standpoint, I'm inclined to stay with the Arisaka. I know you have (I think) two other Type 99's that are shooters, but also earlier war examples. With this "last ditch," it makes for a nice overall example of the Type 99 Japanese rifle transition through the war. From an investment point, this would add value further down the road, especially if you sell them as a set to a true collector.

As for the Italian, and again just my opinion, they are good to have for an overall WWII collection, but I've never held much interest in them. I know they can be accurate enough, especially in the hands of a well trained Marine, but for the most part, they were never really considered the first choice for those guys building those customized sporters from surplus rifles in the 50's and 60's just because there were better choices that were more accurate and had stronger actions as an original platform (Model 98's, 03's, and Arisaka) then the Carcano's.

I know I will get some flack for the above statement, but getting back to your question about what to keep/trade, I would stick with the Arisaka versus the trade for the future investment and that I just find the Arisaka more interesting.

    Again, just my $0.02.

I would assume by "Suprema" the person means "Cavalleria" which is the cavalry version

Note there are 3 versions of the 91/38, the FS being the least carbine version at 40" overall. The Cavalry and TS versions are 36 and 36.5 respectively

I guess the question to ask is if the Carc is worth $275 to YOU. Sorry I'm no help there

And no, I don't know a lot about Carcs. I just have Google Fu. Here's what I used because I love bookmarking these kinds of sites: http://candrsenal.com/terminology-a-...-rifle-models/

C&Rsenal just did a video on the Carcano long rifle and another on the carbines......worth checking out if you haven't watched it yet.

........I don't honestly know how anybody on these boards isn't watching those vids. They are honestly the best thing going in a long time.

researching a Terni model 38 7.35(not import marked) passed down from a family member
those that are not SA marked are very uncommon

The suprema version I know of is a sporterized Carcano. From somebody that likes and knows Carcanos I would not have done that trade. Get a Type I that way you can have a Carcano and an Arisaka all at once.

There are Mosins where the Finn marks lessen value. On the Carcano the non SA marked versions are rarer. I do believe the Finn marked ones are historical and interesting though and I have a place for one in my collection.

Yes correct it is an old sporter as imported in the 1960's.
