        Yeah, so lessons...

        a) if your decapping pin hits something you don't force it.
        b) checking brass ahead of time never hurts, could be a rock or something in there
        c) if your die allows you to adjust the pin so it'll pop out instead of breaking don't overtighten it.
        d) have extra decapping pins on hand just in case.

I have about 4 decaping pins that look like that all done withing a matter of 30 minutes.

This was with my Lee Universal decaper , i was decaping 556 cases using my Hornady LNL . My shell plate was not indexing correctly so the pin was not hitting the primer, it was hitting the bottom of the shell.

Keep in mind this was when i first got into reloading and probably havnet loaded more than 10 rounds . I though it was supposed to be hard because i was popping out some crimped primers

Luckily, RCBS graciously is sending out a replacement decapping unit...threaded rod, neck sizing button, decapping pin, under warranty

I think we all have a newbie story along those lines.

Did something similar as a newbie but it was a stainless steel media pin lodged in the brass that bent the decapper.

Being a rookie reloader, I'm glad I haven't done that yet, haha

                          No question about that, Arnie.

A number of people have suggested a Lee decapping die. I've got one on the way.

You're in good company Mustang. I think almost every reloader has had a berdan primed case sneak into the mix and do just that. I did the same thing with a 30-06 case. RCBS sent out a new decapping unit, button and decapping pins - in between Christmas and New Year at that.

They were really nice about it. It helps that I only live about 50 miles from RCBS.
