    Probably a pointless M39 question.

Is there a way to mount a scope on my M39 that won't ruin it and isn't a scout scope? I've done google fu on this, and it seems that the scout scope is the only option unless I wanna mod the bolt handle and drill and tap it, which isn't gonna happen. I may just end up going the scout way otherwise....

I looked on http://www.brassstacker.com/mosin-na...ope-Mount.html If I was to scope my M39 this seems the best way to go without DRL&TPing. I dont know is this is what you looked at...

A friend of mine gave me their mount for a M44. The mount will mount to the rear sight base much like the linked one above. A scope on a M44 seems kinda pointless, lol...

That's the one i had been looking at. I was hoping for a more standard mount to use a normal scope but that'll work. I previously had a Savage Scout, and although the scout scope wasn't my favorite it was very effective at long range vs irons. I only shot it out to 400 yards, which many don;t consider long range, but I'm more in the "how far do you really need to shoot?" camp.

Aye, I've seen 2 options for mosins that don't permanently modify it, either the scout mount that replaces the rear leaf, or another guy was making one that is basically a scope riser held on to the receiver with tension (a brass sheet metal piece that slips between receiver and stock and is clamped down on the other side to hold the mount securely). I bought one of those a few years ago and tried it. The nice thing was that it was open in the base so you could still use normal irons, the downside is due to the tension fit it would start drifting away from zero after a hundred rounds or so. This was on a round receiver though and I think the design would work more securely on a hex receiver (the 'feet' were ground at an angle that should sit flush and tight against a hex and prevent any rotation).

I have no experience with non-scout mounts on the M39. Dekul might be talking about Jmeck low-profile mounts. I've eyed them but never purchased. It just seems like a lot of work over doing a Scout setup that you won't have to worry about bolt clearance or off-set mounts.
