*update post 24* Got my Krag. A 2 for 1 deal...

Having bought a chargemaster and a ton of reloading stuff, I told myself no more purchases. I happened to just peek over at the FS section on CMP Forums and saw an 1898 Krag for 395 shipped. Beat the next buyer by 3 minutes.

It hurt but a shootable Krag in seemingly original trim seemed too good to pass up considering I've been wanting one.

Now the tough part. WHERE IS ALL THE AMMO!

I never thought it'd be so hard to find. If anyone has any leads I'd love to hear about it.

Since it won't be here until Friday, you'll have to make do like me and look at seller provided potato pics.

    Stock looks pretty

    Crisp stamp

    Too bad about the crack.

Don't know much about these other than there are a ton of variants to the sights.

Freckled barrel probably the ugliest part.

    Came from CMP

He hasn't cleaned it yet. Apparently strong lands but dark. Took a bit of a gamble and hoping it pays off.

I'll have new pictures when its here.

Very nice. I have some 30-40 Krag ammo squirreled away for my someday rifle.

Where are these CMP for sale sections you speak of? I couldn't find any for firearms

          I want one so bad!

I do have a modern rifle chambered in the cartridge however, Winchester 1885 Trapper. Eventually I will get the real deal. Interesting cartridge, I had a bit of a hard time finding brass for my rifle. It's out there though...

I'll sell you some new virgin brass, $1 per case. That's what I paid.

I hope the crack by the trigger isn't too bad.

You bought a piece history to enjoy ! What has that rifle been through?

I've bought Remington 30-40 Krag ammo from Sportsman's Warehouse online services before. Was delivered to the local store in just a few days time.

Congrats Nam. An original Krag is on my someday list.

I can't help you with 30-40 ammo, but you can use your .303 British brass for the 30-40 Krag. Here's an article about how to do it.

Some cold blue and tru-oil will fix that right up.

Assuming you're not in L.A. city, Grafs.com had some last time they still shipped to L.A....

                        I bought some from selwayarmory.com

I have 40 unfired rounds and about 50 pieces of brass. It's a very mild shooting round. I keep my loads low to prolong my brass life.

You're going to lay $25-35 per box of 20. Hsm makes it and so does Remington.

Years ago I had read that most of the ammo is made seasonally usually around fall for hunting.

As previously stated, it has '' seasonal runs'', that's why it's usually unobtanium. Also as previously mentioned, it can be made from 303 British brass. They're fun to shoot, accurate as Hell and a very mild recoil. However, the bolt has only one locking lug so check it carefully before firing it.
