Hey guys I'm in the market for a original winchester but curious as to what price ranges I should expect to buy at ?

I see some original in 44-40 for 3k

What would be a good price for a 1873 re chambered in 38 special ?

Not to be rude - but "rechambering" an original 1873 to 38 special would be a hanging offense in any sane collector's world.

Best to buy a modern Rossi or whoever makes replica 1873's in that caliber.

To your point - Original 1873's are all over the map, depending on condition, caliber, and configuration.

Any where from a few hundred to several thousand. Depends on caliber, condition and configuration.

If you want a 73' in .38 Special then I suggest looking at Uberti. You get the same authenticity without having to destroy an original Winchester.

Couldn't agree more, love my Uberti 1873. Modern Winchesters can't hold a candle to the Ubertis.

To be clear I dont want a 66 , 73 92 or 94 in 38 spl or .357 if given the coise I perfer my cowboy rounds 44/40 ect.

I was inquiring because i saw a original 1873 made in the late 1870's that was already re chambered in .38 special probably some 60 + years ago and wanted to check what a good going rate was. This was for sale for $1200

I though being a real 73 , even if it was re chambered for .38 $1200 was not that bad of a price ?

Now that it has been rechambered, it's value is solely based on it's utility as a shooter, or for parts value. At that point, you're better off with a Uberti.

It may be a great shooter and a fun rifle to own, with the benefit of having easy to find ammo... but there's no way you could look at other Win 1873 prices and use those as a comparison to this one. Just my opinion.

You should be able to find a good used Uberti '73 in 44-40 which will stand you quite well for whatever use you want to put it to. Most of the cowboy action guys are using them. I load black powder in 44-40 and shoot mine (uberti) on occasion. I also have a Uberti 73 in .38 and it is a fun gun too. I would think that if you checked out the Uberti website and looked at the selection, you could find a combination that is to your liking, and either get a new one, or find a used one at a reasonable price. Also worth checking out are the low wall rifles which although single shot, are super fun to shoot, have fantastic balance, and are great looking rifles.
