Would assume that you should get there early if going to the Games for sole purpose of getting a rifle. CMP will pull out rifles from the top of the box and not cherry pick. Even the volunteers could not look through the boxes before the show. At least thats how it was at the first Games.

Stevie is right that the volunteers did not get to rummage through the boxes. As I pulled them out, I took a couple seconds to look it over to decide if I wanted it and that was it. The guys standing at the tables waiting had better opportunities because they got all the time in the world to look at it while I had to dig into the box for the next one. At the first Western Games I picked out a nice HRA SG but there were many more I put out that were just as nice as what I selected. At the end of the day, I picked out a Winchester RG M1917 that had been sitting there all day.
Check back later for a witty comment.

If you guys haven't been to the first two Western Games in May and Nov of 2005, they pretty much start selling after the day's shooting is done on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Rifles on the table and you pretty much get in line to get to the table since there's quite a few people trying to jockey for position.

I do think that the CMP should give priority to those who actually shot in the day's match to get to the tables first since all the people who are there just for rifles are already in front of the tables before the shooters are even back from the firing line with all their gear.

Pretty much the reason for selling after the shooting, is to give the shooters a chance for the rifles.

Yeah, I understood that was the point, but all the non-shooters who just came on base for rifles are already camping the tables before the day's shooting is over.

I think it would be a good way to increase the shooter participation. We need the Western Games to grow.

Thats true, the crowd gathered early. Hopefully the CMP will bring more rifles. Its is a little discouraging for rifles to run out the first day on a 3 day event.
