Seen-IHC Garand, Ruskie SKSs, 03's etc and a robbery

Went to visit a couple gunstores today so I thought a headsup might be inorder incase you are in the area and are interested.

River City Guns (wasn't very busy)

I saw 3 Russian SKS's 2 were in the $389 range one was $699. All wood was kinda rough no shiney varnish finish and I don't know much if anything about a Russian SKS's. I didn't see completely matching numbers on any of them, they looked like rebuilds to me.
Arisaka Type 99s $249(I forgot to check if this was the duffle cut one I saw a year or so ago) and $179 last ditch.

Then went to STS in Folsom, pulled in the parking lot, the front of the store was caved in and yellow tape all across so I didn't hang around there. Clerk at J&G said there was another gun store it but didn't say where.

Next stop was J&G in Granite Bay:

IHC Garand (supposedly all IHC) front sight was wide winged which I thought was a WRA characteristic Don't have any reference material with me. Tag was $2000 but "make an offer". They have several 1903's 03a3's, A Winnie Model 1917, a NM 1903.

Actually not a terrible price, if it was truly an all IHC rifle. If you're looking for a "safe queen", that'd be a decent option.

Do you recall the prices on any of these?

I've never understood safe queens. A rifle is a tool. Tools are like toys--they're meant to be used.

Although IHC's have a variety of widths in front sights they are known for having the widest front sight of all manufactures

So you would shoot a new in box commemorative knowing doing so will drop the price quite a bit? Or shoot very expensive older fragile guns where parts availability is nonexistent? Actually I currently don't really have any guns I wouldn't or haven't shot but there is guns I feel that probably shouldn't be. If I happen to acquire them I generally sell them off.

Every gun I have ever owned more than 6 month to a year I have always eventually tracked down ammo for it and fired it. This is like 400-500 guns over the last 20 years or so.

Some aren't even that expensive but here is a couple of examples. I had a commemorative Savage 99 in .308 Win. It had been shot before but was really nice. However it just wasn't practical for any hunting or target shooting or other applications except collecting so I sold it off. I own about 8 Makarovs. Chinese ones are very hard to find these days. I no longer shoot my near mint one.

No reason too since I have more common examples. At one point I used to carry and fire it but since I have the box and everything I figured was best to put it in semi retirement. Only time I shot it in last 15 years was my friend had a girlfriend from the PRC so I let her shoot it.

At that price with chewed furniture, it was most likely one of the Chinese Type 56s that came in with a Russian dust cover. STS got rolled I believe it was on Friday. Were they open at least? I have to go pick up the M1A that's been in jail.

You'd hate me then. I'm basically running a museum at this point.

I was wondering why big difference in prices the 2 at $389 and the one at $699, it did have the rebuild stamp on the dust cover, that I did notice. All were in not the best of condition wood wise either.

A place in Rocklin got hit the same day, but he locks up his stuff at night so they only got an AK in for repairs, or something like that. STS got hit for est 220-250 firearms, guess they don't lock things up maybe they will now! Funny I never see that many firearms in STS when I've been there. Don't know where they have them hidden I was just in the store 2 days before.
I would guess they are open now, this was last week on Weds when I drove by and saw the Crime Scene tape and the caved in front of the store there were no cars parked in front of the place then.

Thanks for that info, probably was a correct sight then. Didn't have my "best eyes" with me that day. I did look for the WRA punchmark on it which it did not have.

When I was following the story as it was being reported, it was something like 20-25 handguns plus one rifle. The 220-250 firearms you mention is probably the amount stolen in Sac County as reported by Sac Bee. They have a vault in the back so my best guess is it was the pistols in the case and that over-priced, commemorative K98 in glass that has been on consignment for the last year.

Yes you are correct, I messed up thanks for catching that. The larger amount was mentioned as "stolen in "Sacto County" with some recovered during the arrest of the perps.

Sadly we don't get a lot of CA news on TV in Tahoe. Charter only allows us one Sacto TV Station all else is the "Reno" market.
