    Questions: C&R and M1 Garand

Ok so question 1: I am 19 years old and own a pretty decent amount of Milsurps and wonder if I should get/is it worth it to get a C&R license thing.
    What is 03 FFL?
Ok I just got a beautiful M1 garand and want to know what type of AMMO I should get it? And should I get one of those gas plug things to shoot modern ammo through?
    Thanks

I think you need to be 21 or older to get an FFL03.

FFL03 is a type of license for purchasing Curio and Relics. With the COE (Certificate of Eligibility), you may have C&R eligible long guns shipped to your address on your FFL03.

Regarding ammo for the m1 Garand. Assuming it's in 30-06, anything less than 170 gr commercial should be fine. Several commercial companies, ie PPU, Hornady makes Garand specific ammos. If you shoot only 170gr or below, no need to buy the adjustable gas plug.

You run a greater risk of damaging the rifle using standard commercial ammo instead of Garand safe ammo. OP I would recommend picking up some HXP ammo from the CMP or the PPU Garnd safe ammo. If you want to shoot standard commercial ammo, then pick up the ported gas plug from GarandGear. That will allow you to shoot just about any commercial ammo without damage to your rifle.

Thanks for the responses guys! I just ordered the gas plug-but I am still going to stick to less than 170gr ammo when it comes thanks for the help!

+1. It would only make sense to use Garand safe (<160gr) than just grab any hunting rounds off the shelf. Unless you plan to hunt with the Garand, just use less than any <160gr ammo, and without the Adjustable gas plug, and you should be good to go.

The point is, if you use Garand safe ammo, save yourself $35 bucks on the plug and use it to buy more ammo

When you need more, definitely recommend ordering from cmp, spam can for $115, or about .75 cpr if i remember correctly. It comes with bandoleers to boot.
