This article mentions a large quantity of 6.5 Carcano found in Libya post overthrow of Qaddafi and the methods used by rebels to get the ammo to fire!

Also found (besides modern cartridges) was .50 Vickers, truly a rare item.

I was in Somaliland last month for their independence day, some what looked like reserve soldier were issued carcanos (along with lots of SKS's, M1 Carbines, some Garands, FAL's and plenty of AK's). Eritrea also captured a few in their war of independence and used them later. I'll post a few photos within the next week if anyone is interested

I wonder what happened to the 20,000 stinger missiles Qaddafi had? They were Chinese copies of our stingers. Lets hope that the guys who found they had no idea what they were and used them as RPGs.

The Italians were in N. Africa as well as Ethiopia and Somalia. Carcano ammo should be no surprise.

They were not stingers they were ATGM'S. Hillary got them to Syria and they were used.

I was under the impression that there were thousands of soviet sourced MANPADS still unaccounted for that the U.S. was still trying to locate in Libya. And that the CIA started providing US backed Syrian Rebels with the TOW missiles.

By 'us' do you mean the commies? Way more commie ammo than anything else. Did see some .38 and .357 ammo made in the USA.

No I meant us as in the USA in general when it comes to arms dealing, not necessarily this article. We move more guns than anyone, on and off the books.
