... what have you been doing?
As some of you may recall, I mentioned a month or two ago that i was selling all (well..most) of my guns and "getting out" of the hobby.
So, liquidating the rifle collection produced some cash, and this is what i've turned it into: helmets, helmets, helmets!
I've sold 10 guns or so in the past while and really turned the helmet collection into something nice. What was primarily milsurps with a few nice pieces has gradually metamorphosed into a collection worthy of the name; sort of like what started with a bunch of big5 mausers and mosins has gradually picked up a few nice garands and an svt...
anyway to the pics!
A Swiss Artilleryman's Shako, model 1898. These were worn from '98-1916 when they replaced with steel helmets. Whats neat about this guy is its artillery from canton Glarus, which is a very rural place; ie, the population today is only 12k people, makes you wonder how many they could muster for artillery 100yrs ago. So this is neat as its pretty rare.

next up: 2 french Adrian helmet variants, the armored troops model, 1935, and the airforce model, 1950 (in blue). Love these. They were both hard to find, and especially with the leather pad in decent shape. The leather pad is sort of like a bike helmet; the original m1915 adrian was no good for troops who had to peer thru visors or range finders like a tanker would, so they removed the front visor and replaced it with a pad. The badge differed depending on service branch; tankers wore the one above, the guys who drove armored cars had a different badge, etc. Am very please with both of these, as they're both in great shape!

next up... the main event... THE IMPERIAL COLLECTION

3 of the 4 of these ive gotten recently, the Baden Infantry, the Prussian Arty and the Prussian Uhlan Tschapka.
Here's the tschapka in more detail:

so guys, if you ever get tired of guns, move to where the ranges all suck, or just get fed up with wondering if the DOJ is gonna come knockin', i can recommend... if you sell your guns, there are lots of historical things to get into which are just as cool! (if of slightly less utility in the event of violent revolution or zombie apocalypse)
greets,
