    M38 carbine

I picked this one up in PA. while on a road trip. I got it at a small gun shop east of Pittsburgh. There is no importer stamp on it and it's in pertty good shape.

It is missing the trapdoor on the buttplate.
Do not relish to feel what the men that used these weapons felt when they saw the elephant. For the elephant has tusk and to see him is to have his tusk dig deep into your soul. You will always have a part of you that will be cold and empty.

Someone really graffitied that stock. It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks like the carving was done quite a while after it was issued.

Let the sanding begin, nice patina but the giant AK is just graffiti to me. Still happy you got it.

What's the gun shop? I lived there many years ago, just curious to learn if it is a shop I used to work for.

My coworker gave me has dad's sporterized, beat to hell 91/38. The front of the stock has been cut off. Can you measure from the front of the bayonet lug to the muzzle? I need to know how much wood I need to splice to the stock.

              Beautiful rifle.

Isn't that a short rifle? Non Finn though right? Which is actually rarer. The more carbine like TS models are actually very rare in 7.35, cavalry carbines are scarce in 7.35 but not as rare as a TS. You going to shoot it? I think the Finn ones are under priced considering their interesting history.

The pics don't show the dirt in the carving very well. I picked up another Carcano along with this one. I was told that they had bought them from an old guy. Could have been the GI that brought them home from the war and the A.K. could be his initials. I think they are cool and they will stay.

You are right. The Italians referred to them as short rifles. And it is raeer that it is not Finn marked. The Italians didn't care for the 7.35 cal. so they shipped most of them to the Finns as war aid. don't remember if they gave them to the Finns or sold them to them, but I did some reading that the Finns didn't care to much for them.
I do have a Finn marked M38 in my collection.

Now for the name of the gun shop. I would have to call my friend in PA. He lived in the house next door to the shop.

I thought the TS had the 91 handguard and all in one bayonet and front band.

And thank you for the measurements. I have the donor beech wood coming in this week.

The TS has an odd bayonet lug made into the front band. I'm not sure about the handguard.

That is an early TS bayonet lug later on it used a normal one not the transverse style. Generally the Finns disliked the Carcano. I think they purchased them they weren't free but not 100% sure.

Ut-Oh!! THE DHS will be coming to visit you shortly. One buys a Carano for only one thing. This year the powers that be are extremely paranoid.

Well, I'm in trouble. I have eight Carcanos.
