    Remington Model 81

Back in the day, before SWAT teams, Law Enforcement used the Remington Model 81 and Winchester 1907 self-laoding rifles for "high risk" arrests. These semi auto rifles were beautifully made and finished and chambered in .25, .30, .32, and .35 Remington and .300 Savage.

    Here's my Model 81, in .30 Remington...

I don't have a pic, but I have a Model 8 chambered in .32 REM made in 1907 in the safe. It was my wife's great grandfather's hunting rifle. I haven't been able to find ammo so I haven't shot it yet. I tore it down and cleaned it really well, oiled the furniture and steel and now I'm just waiting for the opportunity to shoot it.

I missed the boat on 8s and 81s when they were inexpensive, so I had to settle for a 1907. It's hard for me to fork out almost a grand, the Winchester was $200.

Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Here's an image of the special order law enforcement Remington 8.

Nice 81! My 81 in .300 Savage was too much gun for me, even wearing a shooting jacket.

Dude.....I have 60 rds of .32 Rem special. The ammo is ancient but in decent shape. The boxes are crumbling.
I estimate the ammo to be at least 70 yrs old, you may want to pull it down and reload it, but you can have it.
My great-grandfather had a lever gun chambered in .32 Winchester and I suspect he bought this stuff by mistake way back when. My grandfather passed the ammo down to me.

You can have it if you want, no charge. I tried to sell it but got no bites.

PM me and I will ship it to you.

Edit: here is my ad. Let me know.

Buffalo Arms is out at the moment, but they do list .32 Remington ammo for sale.

I've got a Winchester '07 also. They are a fun little gun to shoot.

                    Thanks, guys.

That Special Law Enforcement model 8 is sweet looking. I saw one of those for sale at Peterson's in Albuquerque back in 2009. It sold for $2000--about 4 times what a regular model 8 was going for.

                      Nice!

I'm in the hunt for an FBI Model 81. I've only seen one and it went for big bucks.

That's a nice looking Model 81 Mustang. I've never shot one but all the posts I've read say they kick like a mule. How do you like shooting yours?

                          Thanks, '47.

This one is fun to shoot and actually pretty accurate with the Redfield sight. I know that others claim that these are hard kicking, but I haven't found mine to be. The .30 Remington is basically a rimless 30-30, so it isn't a a terribly powerful cartridge.

Fear not my fellow Calgunites!! Nobody within this thread lamenting supply or minding nostalgia should go without!!!

I got you covered! And in .300 Savage, a powerful round that's still relatively easy to find of all the different calibers it came in:
