    Security Forces SKS

    Hi All,

Not really a C&R, but is a collector of sorts.

This is what came my way, and what I did within the 1st hour. As I've said else where, it's missing the receiver cover and stock, left side arsenal [0141], serial number followed by "KFS ATL GA", right side the 2 CPSF Chinese characters.

Started off putting it in a TS Monty, replaced cover mount with an un-numbered one. Fits great, looks good. Stepped back and thought about it.

So it's an "All matching but..." SF Bubba. Since I'll never get rid of it, I'm going to continue down the path of non permanent tinkering, for a range rifle. It's far too heavy to slug around in the field, and too nice to jolt around as a truck gun. The FSB is coming off complete, to be replaced by one that's had the bayo lug and rod guides neutered then re-blued. Here's some crappy pictures. It is what it is and I'm happy as could be. PAX

Can you tell the difference between these? HINT, they're not the same. PAX

It is the extra characters on the right side of the receiver that signify it as a Security Forces variant.

Should make for a fun project gun. Have you considered cleaning up the bolt? If it's not going anywhere, might as well use some Kroil and some bronze wool on it.

Nice examples Bobby. Pinned barrel with side mount sling. I think that's going to be tough to locate. PAX

These rifles were property of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), which was the organization responsible for the police force in China. Some have compared the Public Security Forces unit to the Gestapo, in tactics and operation.

In 1983, the Ministry of State Security was created and the MPS lost much of it's authority and was no longer responsible for riot control, where these rifles might have been used. This is believed to be how they became available for export. Rumored to be around 3000 rifles. The fit seems a little tighter. PAX
