I applied for my C@R a few weeks back.A friend told me that once recieved that NO warrant is need to search my home at any time ,that the front door can be kicked in and the house trashed. No 'probable cause' applies,...just 'cuz.

The ATF can schedule an audit, once a year?, but it is very rare, and you can do the audit at the ATF office instead of at your home.

The atf can audit once per year (and they typically don't) they must contact you in advance, perform the audit at your convenience, and you have the option of having the audit at their office.

I have heard of them showing up unannounced and requesting an inspection, and even being pushy about it, but you can schedule an appointment at their place instead.

This is true. I have personal experience with this. Everything was handled professionally and cordially, but it did scare my girlfriend at the time a bit when the ATF showed up and I was out of town. They didn't ask to see my non C&R guns. The agents were friendly and professional.

I was a renter at the time and they made me get a letter from the landlord stating that he was aware that I was a collector and had no problem with it. This wasn't a problem because my landlord was a former .mil guy and had a bunch of 1911s.

A few months before my C&R renewal, an ATF agent calls to request an audit of my bound book. I could do it at my convienence at their office in Glendale or my location. I chose my location as they were not going to inspect my collection, simply check the paper work (everything entered correctly).
If we hadn't chatted, it would have been completed in under 10 min.

She should have refused entry and set up an office appointment with you.

They can't make you do this. The proper answer is "F U". Period.

Also, the letter you send to the CLEO is not asking for permission to be a C&R, it's mere notification that you are one. Period.
