In late Jan. of 2007, I stopped by one of the local pawn shops just to have a look. Well something in the first gun case cought my eye. Now this first case is right inside the gun room section of this shop and the left side of the case was not well lit. Sitting in the shadows was a big revolver that did not look good at first glance. But when I saw how big the bore was, I asked to see it.
I was shocked to see that it was a Colt 1917. I had not seen one for sale in my area for some time. It had a light coat of rust but looked to be in very good shape. It was priced just under $500 and I asked why was it priced as such. The guy behind the counter said that he was not the one that sets the prices. I handed it back and left the shope.
For some reason I just could not stop thinking about the revolver. I had always wanted one but they have always been out of my price range and I did say I was going to cut back on my gun buying that year.
That two days later I was having supper with my friend and told her about the Colt. She just looked at me like I was dumb and said, just go buy it if you want it.
Well the next day when I got off from work I went to the shop and there it was, sitting in the shadows of the case.
I later found out that it was delivered to the Government during the week of August 31, 1918
