8MM Wolf Ammo

Just to warn everyone out there with a 8X57 Yugo 24/47 or any of the sort of rifle that fires that ammo.

Do not use Wolf Ammo. It is so dirty and just does not have any FPS behind it. it did load okay but I was disappointed by it's quality and inaccuracy.

Let me know if you have shot this ammo and what you thought of it.

I agree. It is barely worth the brass it is made of.

Are these casings reloadable.

Should I save them for throwing at something . they might have more power and better accuracy.

If the steel(pretty sure its steel) uses a Boxer primer then i believe u can reload them. If not.. then you would need a special tool to extract the Berdan primer.

Use the cases as targets! they are big enough to shoot hah.

Most new factory loaded 8x57 ammo is going to severly underpowered. The reason is there are two 8x57 chamberings. Originally the 8x57 had a .318" groove diameter - the German's called this one the 8x57J. Later on the 8x57 was redesigned with a .323" groove diameter - this was known as the 8x57S. The 8x57S is much more powerful and operates at a much higher pressure than the "J". The 8x57S is what all surplus Mausers have been since WWI.

But there are still 8x57J bore rifles out there... and ammo manufacturers don't want high pressure "S" cartridges out of "J" bore rifles for fear of kabooming them. As a result, ammo manufacturers load down their 8x57S ammo to such a low pressure that it would still be safe if fired in a "J" bore rifle.

In the USA there is only one 8x57 the "S" bore, but in Europe there is the 8x57J and 8X57S. You tell them which one you want..... I guess we're not smart enough on this side of the pond to have that choice.

I don't have any reloading equipment. If you know someone who reloads and wants the brass when am done with it let me know before I destroy it or scrap it.

The American stuff shoots just fine. It is almost identical to some of the lower powered 8x57J stuff. In terms of power it is about on par with .30-40 Krag. The reason they don't trust us with higher powered stuff is because we are a nation full of backwards, ignotant, knuckle-draggers when it comes to following instructions. If the box says "8x57S. Not for use in Gew 88s or guns with a .318" bore.", all John Q. Public reads is 8x57. And then he goes and blows his face off, and turns around and sues the ammo maker. Look how many .38 ACP guns have been ruined by putting .38 Super in them. Or the short-lived 9mm Federal, that got pulled because idiots found that they could put it in old top-latch .38 S&W revolvers. Instead, they decided that if people can't be bothered to read, they shouldn't be allowed to to have something that they could blow themselves up with. If you want hotter ammo, get some of the specialty stuff from reloading companies like OWS. Or get European loads. OR learn to reload, and you can tailor make loads for your gun.

I sure know now that is is just cheap stuff. I was a newbie to this ammo. It was my only choice for my 8MM locally. But now I am reassured that you get what you pay for.
