Chinese War movie screen-shots (Johnson rifle) 1/3

This movie is about the KMT/Chicom war from 45-49. I watched it twice: first for the plot, second for all the C&R pick-out. I probably saw a P17 (or eddystone) as well, and I skipped MN. One thing curious, I didn't see any Garand. But that Johson rifle scenes are a jem.

It looks cool. What was the name of the movie? What languages is it available in? Any idea if there is an English version, or one with English subtitles?

The movie in English is called, "The Assembly". It has subtitles and available on DVD. It shows the side of the Communist Chinese fighting the Nationalist.

"The Assembly" is like from almost two years ago.

Although based on a real story, most of the weapons in this film are historically wrong, as well as the uniforms but people just don't care.

One scene, Gu Zi Di called the British Enfield "a bad and unreliable rifle" I was like "wow wtf?"

Back in 1945, the two sides were pretty much killing each other with freaking shovels and spears. Captured japanese rifles, US supplied tanks, Soviet supplied machineguns were very rare luxuries.

I say let's move on to red cliff 2 already, at least it has half naked sluts.

Wow, I wonder if they made a prop gun for that or if they actually used a real one? How would one of those even wind up there in a real life scenario?

                hoo,

Don't know where you get info. from. By 1945, most Nationalist (and Chicom) are equipted & fought well enough to tie-up upto 2 million Japanese army. And at least 10+ divisions of Nationalist troops were US-equipted and fought under Gen. Stilwill. From 45-49, Chiang-kei-shek received massive mil-ad from the US to fight (but lost) the mainland fight, and the whole war was fought with millions of soldiers on both sides. BTW, the same bunch chicom-force was in the Korean war too.

As for movie props, I don't know about the Johnson's and 1903s'. After all most nationalist soldiers did surrender to the chicom (and so were their US equipment. My grandpa was lucky, he ended up in Taiwan a year before the mainland fell)

                  not exactly shovels and spears
many believed nationalist troops were well equipted. but incorrect. US supplied stuff mostly went to Chiang's elite forces, roughly 500 thousand men IIRC, half got stuck in Dongbei (i dont call it manchuria, cause i f**king hate manchus) because of frozen coast lines, half were either defeated in central china or surrendered/revolted. So the majority of his "six million strong" really had nothing but crap.

Here is a photo taken in Dec 1948, you could see none of the KMT soldiers had any helmet, no sign of MG, all bolt action.

Also notice their uniforms look nothing like the ones in this movie, but actually very similar to the Communist uniform, you probably knew the reason. "Assembly" was bashed crazy in Chinese Military forums because of the weapons and uniforms shown.

The Assembly was criticized for having plenty of historical innacuracies pertaining to the types uniforms and prevalence weapons, but many of them certainly existed. Items like the Johnson rifles and M1 helmets to the KMT were distributed only to trained forces, while the bulk of conscript and untrained volunteer army was limited to bolt action rifles not limited to, but including mausers, arisakas, enfields, and mosin nagants.

This wouldn't be the last time the US supplied indigenous forces but the foreign leadership did not distribute or do the logistics involved in distribution. ARVN forces were often sorely in need of footwear through Vietnam

ETA: yes, I'm aware that would be Chiang's elite forces trained by the Germans and mostly wiped out in the Battle of Shanghai.

It's a good movie, like a chinese version of "saving private ryan".

There's another good movie about the Bosnian war, the whole movie is set in a trench with two soldiers from both sides..

                        This one is good to.

I just submitted a request to Netflix for them to pick up The Assembly.

How do you do that? I doubt they will do it but I would shoot them a request as well.

Netflix does a great job of hiding it, but typing "netflix request" into Google got me this:

I suggest anyone with Netflix hit this, even if you've seen the movie or don't care to. We need more foreign war movies!
