    03FFL/COE

Comrades, after two years of moderately collecting milsurps and 18 specimens later, I've finally sent in my 03FFL and COE applications. I'm excited to say the least.

So you're planning on spending every cent of your disposable income (and possibly more!) for the next 36 months, huh? Welcome to the sickness. I let mine lapse, I had to, the temptation was too great every time I would look at the big C&R vendor websites, visit here or pick up my latest issue of Firearms News. There are still a lot of rifles I would like to buy but have to spend money on the house, work stuff, etc. I built a good collection during my three years and don't regret it but needed to take a financial break.

if you have 18 now, you'll easily be up to 50-60 by the time your FFL03 expires. I know three C&R guys who have between 200-500 C&R guns and still buy something new every week or two. It is a sickness I tell ya!

What I don't understand is why let it expire? It's $30 for three years. That puts you ahead of the game for even a single C&R purchase.

Do they have huge, vaulted man caves to store that plethora?

Sometimes it's good to take a break from buying for a bit and letting the license expire makes impulse purchases a LOT harder.

Eljay nails it. My safe is full and I have piles of them stored outside the safe (sans bolts, the bolts are in the safe). No room for a bigger safe or second one as it is built into a specific location in the house.

Most of the guys I know who are heavy into it either have a display room and or half a dozen safes. It's great, if you can afford it. Unfortunately, I am not wealthy and my work, while getting better, has been relatively unprofitable the past few years, major competitive forces in my industry have driven budgets way, way down, I work twice as hard for half of what I used to make so I am changing it up but until the new ventures begin to pay off, no more C&Rs.

If you bought that many w\o a c&r license, can't wait to see how many you will buy once you get them! You are def going to need a much bigger safe!
            Good luck and good hunting

Iwas buying 2 or 3 C&R guns per year befor I got my license. The first year I had it I bought about 20 guns. It got worse every year. One year I set a gole for one gun a week. It was hard and sometimes I had to buy two guns in one week to make up for one I missed. The year after that I bought 79 guns.
Here is a pics from one road trip I made the year I bought the 79 guns.

After 6 years I let my license expire and it has helped a little but I'm still buying about 20 guns a year.
Then I started building ARs to fight the urge to buy C&Rs

                03FFL/COE

I've had just 2 guns until June 2015. A Yugo mauser and Ruger 10/22.

Now.... ~30. + a pallet of ammo. Having my license I feel whenever I buy one I have to buy a bunch before sending in my $19 extortion fee.
It truly is a sickness and its driven my disposable income to the brink of being non-existent.

You can enjoy collecting. But, my advice is take your time. Wait for the right gun to come along instead of buying everything that shows up. It's been around for 80 years and it'll be around for 80 more. Impulse buys are the worst and the need to fill gaps in collections often dictates over reasoning.

The one we all agree on to buy is a CMP Garand. These will not be around much longer and price will skyrocket when they are gone.

                Enjoy collecting

I have a few questions. I was discussing 03FFL/COE combos with an 01FFL, and they believe that this is useless as all firearms still have to be transferred through an 01FFL. As an 03FFL/COE holder, you can do the following, correct?

                        - Purchase C&R long guns from private sellers "Cash and Carry."

                        - Purchase C&R long guns from online vendors to be shipped directly to you.

I understand all hand guns must go through an 01FFL. Thank you.

I've never needed one, as I've always done good on the street, but the elimination of C&R cash and carry killed it for me. PAX

I was just looking this up. I found a very good summary on Empire Arms' website:
