NEED HELP IDENTIFYING A LUGER

A friend of mine recently inherited an old luger, he sent me a couple picks, i can see it has a sear safety so police work? and im guessing it has been refinished, anyone have any ideas?

You need a pic of the top of the pistol looking down. That should show the manufacturer and date.

As has been stated, your pictures are good enough to identify it as a a P08. Other than that they are far too dark and far away from the gun to tell anything else.

Clear in focus pictures taken with a camera, not a cell phone would help.

Yes it has been refinished at some time as there is no strawing. Also the side plate is not assembled correctly.

As, pointed out, the top of the toggle slide holds a major key. If it is marked "BYF" it was made by mauser. "S/42" indicates walther was the manufacturer. The short barrel indicates a probability of military issue. The side plates got lost very easily; mine would come loose during shooting. Cannot clearly describe the thrill of the damn thing going full auto for three rounds. Also, the side plate is usually a replacement because of this. I remember that the major parts were marked with two numbers of the serial number of the gun; this is how you can tell if it was all original or just thrown together from the shelf. You now know everything I found out up to the time I got rid of it. Good luck -
